Dallas filled his lungs with the crisp morning air that whip
at his cheeks and fumbled around the trees vibrant leaves. As he jogged to the rhythm
of his phone’s soundtrack, he thought of all God’s creation surrounding him. “Amazing,”
he mumbled under his breath, as he made a turn into a weed-ridden lot that held
an old secret. Dallas paused the peppy, upbeat song and sat down onto a worn down
seat of grass and dandelions. He pulled out his phone and opened the Bible app.
The most recent scripture popped onto the screen, sending an instant smile onto
Dallas. ‘For the law of the Spirit of life Christ Jesus hath made me free from
the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak
through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and
for sin, condemned sin the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled
in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.*’ “You are just
amazing…magnificent…just wonderful,” Dallas said aloud,” I’m forever in awe.
Forever indebted. Forever thankful…You have given me something I’ve never known,
and I love you for it. I want my life to be focused only on your will, for your
purpose for my life to be fulfilled. Whatever you want, I’m willing to commit
to. I’m ready to act.” For the next hour, Dallas mediated on the scripture and
repeated his prayer. As Dallas rose from the ground, he heard an audible voice
say,” Go forward.” Dallas knew that it was God, and exactly which direction to
go in. It was like he saw a screen of semitransparent arrows inserted into his
regular sight. Dallas obeyed and walked towards the ancient trees that signaled
the end of civilization on the lot. As he stumbled through the trees, he saw an
old, stone church covered with clinging grape vines. He heard the audible voice
whisper,” This will be the place of your commitments. The first to Me, as a shepherd
to the people. The second to your wife, who you will wed here. Now go act, and
I will you lead you.” The scene around him evaporated into darkness, and Dallas
woke up in a cold sweat.
